I want to remember the bands of orange silhouetting the hills and the brush field lit by the full moon still large in the sky, its milky colors a gentle contrast to the rising glow of the sunrise.

Grand Canyon Journal

This morning was beautiful and peaceful, despite the subtle hum of my anxiety. I'm so glad I arrived early. The quiet (people) and the loud (wind) have been appreciated. It feels like fall at these elevations—a contrast to the burning heat of the desert... All I want to do is put my hand to heart and pray here.

To remember:

+ The spider webs—single threads shining in sunlight, undulating with the wind
+ The lone elk, quietly making her way through the Junipers and Pinyon Pine
+ The contrasts of peace and anxiety, gentleness and violence, fear and certainty
+ Always trying to catch my breath
+ The sound of the rushing wind through the canyon
+ Shadows changing quickly and revealing new details like a plot unfolding
+ Mist rising from the depths below
+ The tangible sense of history and time extending vastly before and beyond my flash of life on this planet
